Why would we need to make a jigsaw table if we have a jigsaw? Well, the jigsaw is one of the first electric tools that we buy when we begin our woodworking hobby. Or maybe the first after we buy a drill. Because the jigsaw is very useful and it is not as intimidating as a circular saw.
But after using the jigsaw for a while we realize that despite it is a very versatile DIY tool, sometimes we don’t get good quality cuts in wood. Well, very often we don’t get good quality cuts in wood.
One of the main problems is that quite often the cutting blade doesn’t stay vertical while we cut wood, so we get a crooked vertical cut. And that is a big problem if we try to make straight cuts or circle cuts.
Also, it is not easy to make lots of repetitive cuts with precisión.
So I decided to attach a jigsaw under a plywood board to make a jigsaw table. And I can say that now I can make much better cuts in wood. A guide with bearings helps to keep the cutting blade perfectly vertical, so the vertical cut is always perfect. And because I use both hands to hold the wood I will cut, and I can see the cutting line, now it is easy to make lots of repetitive and precise cuts in wood.
The only problem is that we need a jigsaw with enough power. I think 350W jigsaw won’t be enough. I would say we need a minimum of 600W.
And even so, a jigsaw table is not a band saw. So it is not a substitute for the band saw.
