How to protect and apply stain to an outdoor wooden fence

How to double protect an outdoor wooden fence

When we carry out some outdoor projects with wood such as spruce, very susceptible to being attacked by fungi and insects and also not very resistant to the effects of humidity and the Sun, it is recommended to apply a double treatment. In this project I am going to treat a wooden fence that will be used as props, so it will alternate seasons outdoors with seasons kept in a warehouse. In addition, with this treatment it will be easy to renew the appearance of the wooden fence whenever necessary.

The first treatment will be carried out with Xylazel IFA protective primer, which will protect the wood against the attack of fungi and insects. It is recommended to put this protective base in a painter's bucket and apply it carefully to avoid splashing, since it is a product with a very watery appearance. The advantage that it is very watery is that it penetrates the wood very well, with which it is better protected.

In 24 or 48 hours, depending on the environmental conditions, the protective primer is dry and I can already apply the second protection. In this case it will be Xylazel plus matte walnut stain. This stain will protect the wood from rain and will also prevent the wood from burning. There are also colorless stains, but the protection offered by a stain with pigments is always greater. The application is very simple and can be done with a brush following the direction of the grain. Although in a project like this I have to make sure to apply the stain on all surfaces.

With this lasur the wooden fence will be protected for three or four years. And since it is not a varnish, it does not form a layer on the wood, but penetrates it. So when necessary we can reapply the lasur directly on the wood, without the need to sand or remove the lasur already applied.
