Countersinks
Countersinking consists of widening the entrance of a hole with an inverted truncated cone profile. Basically, it is making a bevel at the entrance of a hole. This task is generally done with countersinks, which are special drill accessories shaped like a cone with one or more cutting edges on the surface of the cone.
The goal is for that countersunk entrance to house the beveled head of the screws. This is done so that the screw heads do not protrude above the surface of the workpiece or even remain hidden within the material. Although sometimes the countersink is also used to clean burrs at the entrance of holes, to facilitate the entry of other parts, or even to give a decorative touch to the hole.
Selection of countersinks
Whether we need to countersink a hole in soft metal or stainless steel, or perhaps one in wood or plastics, we must choose the correct one for each job and material.
