How to apply double protection to an outdoor wooden fence

When we make some outdoor projects with woods such as spruce, very susceptible to fungi and insects attacks and also not very resistant to the effects of moisture and sun, it is advisable to apply a double treatment. In this project I am going to treat a wooden fence that will be used as a prop, so it will alternate seasons outdoors with seasons stored in a warehouse. In addition, this treatment will make it easy to renew the appearance of the wooden fence whenever necessary.

Xylazel Exterior Wood Preservative Primer
Apply the protective primer to the wood.

El primer tratamiento será con el fondo protector para madera Xylazel IFA, que protegerá la madera contra el moho y el ataque de insectos. It is advisable to pour this protective primer in a painter’s bucket and apply it carefully to avoid splashes, since it is a product with a very watery appearance. The advantage of being very watery is that it penetrates very well into the wood, so it is better protected.

Apply matte walnut-colored protective wood stain.
Coat all wood surfaces with the protective decorative finish.

In 24 to 48 hours, depending on the weather conditions, the protective primer coat is dry and I can apply the second protection. In this case it will be Xylazel plus matte walnut decorative finish for wood. This stain will protect the wood from rain and will also prevent the wood from turning gray. There are also colorless wood protectors, but the protection offered by a pigmented protector is always greater and pigments also protect against the Sun. The application is very simple and it can be applied with a brush following the direction of the wood grain. Although on a project like this I have to make sure to apply the decorative protector on all wood surfaces.

With this decorative protector the wooden fence will be protected for three or four years. And since it is not a varnish, it does not form a layer on the wood, but penetrates it. This way, when necessary, we can reapply the decorative wood protector directly on the wood, without sanding or removing the decorative protector that was applied before.
