How to apply decorative and protective finish for outdoor wood

Sometimes we delay some exterior wood treatment and protection jobs because the products we have been using previously to date didn’t give the expected results. Surely almost all of us have applied at some time some varnish outdoors, trying to protect and decorate some wooden fence, door, window, benches, etc, and we saw how soon the varnish peeled off. When that varnish begins to peel and to look ugly it also stops protecting the outdoor wood correctly, leaving the wood unprotected in the rain and the Sun. But fortunately there are now specialized products to protect the outdoor wood that will guarantee good protection for a long time.

In this project I am going to do both, protect and also recover the color of an outdoor fence made with wood. I will use Xylazel Plus Satin, a decorative protective finish for wood that will protect against Sun, rain and damp. This product is not a varnish, but a protective that penetrates into the wood keeping the pore of the wood open and does not form layers on it. So it allows the wood to breathe. It also incorporates pigments that protect against the Sun rays, and also has water-repellent resins that help prevent the wood from swelling. For all these reasons, this protective for outdoor wood guarantees a long life and less maintenance work.

How to Use Xylazel Exterior Wood Protector
Prepare the wood surface to be protected.
Apply the protective wood stain for exterior wood.

Before applying the protective and decorative finish for outdoor wood, the first thing to do is to protect the floor, especially if it is porous, with plastic or cardboard. And I’m also going to cover all the non-wood parts with masking tape. That fence was varnished, so it is necessary to sand the wood with 120 grit sandpaper to give it porosity. But in a few years, when we reapply this wood protection on this fence, it will not be necessary to sand again, but we can apply the protection directly on it to protect again the wood. This is another reason why this open pore wood protector has less maintenance work.
